Yash-starrer Toxic hit theatres on Wednesday, 26 August, but its release has already sparked a debate on social media after a moviegoer claimed that a child was allowed into an A-rated screening, reports NDTV.
The controversy began after a user on X said a child was sitting next to him while he watched the film. Toxic, directed by Geetu Mohandas, has received an ‘A’ certificate from India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), restricting its theatrical viewing to adults.
Sharing his concern on X, the user wrote, “My theatre anxiety is peaking as a little child is sitting next to me. And this is an adult movie with violence and A rated scenes. Parents stop bringing your films to Adult films! Please…”
The post quickly attracted reactions from other social media users, with several questioning how a child was allowed into an adults-only screening.
“Bro is getting lifetime trauma before learning the alphabet,” one user commented.
Another took a more casual approach, writing, “They are the new generation, they have already seen worse. Focus on the movie lol.”
Others placed the responsibility on both parents and cinema operators. “Actually @_PVRCinemas must be strict with such issue and also the parents that if there is a age rating then it’s for a particular reason,” one comment read.
Another user argued that such incidents could contribute to stricter censorship, writing, “This is why CBFC puts hard censorship even in A rated movies.”
“How could the theatre allow a child into an A rated movie. That’s seriously concerning and completely unacceptable,” another comment read.
The discussion comes as Toxic begins its theatrical run amid mixed-to-negative early reactions from critics and audiences.
The film marks Yash’s return to the big screen following the success of KGF: Chapter 2.
Toxic features Yash alongside Kiara Advani, Rukmini Vasanth, Huma Qureshi and Nayanthara. Geetu Mohandas has directed the film, which was released in theatres on 26 August.
