Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three alleged drug traders and seized a total of 1,043 bottles of prohibited Indian Onerex and Eskuf syrups during two separate operations in the Sharsha upazila of Jessore.
Major ATM Fazle Rabbi Prince, the company commander of RAB-6 Jessore, confirmed the matter.
The arrestees have been identified as Md Bashir Uddin, son of Md Kamal Hossain; Md Minhaj, son of Md Sanaullah, both residents of the Govindapur Bottola area, and Abu Bakkar Siddique, son of Md Hossain Ali of Changrali Boundary Para in Sharsha.
According to Major Fazle Rabbi, a team of RAB conducted the drives based on secret information. In the first operation, Bashir and Minhaj were apprehended with 299 bottles of narcotics, comprising 23 bottles of Onerex and 276 bottles of Eskuf syrup.
In a subsequent raid at Changrali Boundary Para, the elite force detained Abu Bakkar and recovered a further 744 bottles of banned Eskuf syrup from his possession.
RAB officials said the suspects had been smuggling these prohibited Indian syrups through the border for a long time to supply drug dealers in Jessore and various other regions across the country.
A case has been filed against the trio under Narcotics Control Act, and they have been handed over to the police station concerned.
