Season 2 of ‘The Pitt’ has strengthened speculation that a night shift spinoff could be on the way.
Episode 13, titled ‘7:00 P.M.’, introduced new intern Nazely Toomarian and senior resident Dr. Crus Henderson, giving the night team a more prominent role than ever before.
The episode balanced day and night shifts, showing a smoother patient handover compared to the chaos of the first season. While familiar faces like Abbott and Dr. Shen anchor the night shift, the focus on Toomarian and Henderson suggested they are intended for larger storylines. Abbott was sent to a corporate meeting for much of the episode, allowing the new characters to take centre stage.
The night shift has gradually been woven into the main narrative, with previous appearances by Abbott and senior resident Dr. Parker Ellis. Ellis’ actress, Ayesha Harris, has been promoted to series regular for the third season, a first for any night shift character.
With the season finale approaching, the enhanced presence of the night team indicates that the show may explore new directions, whether through a spinoff or extended episodes that follow the night shift more closely. Fans can expect more stories from the ER after the day staff clock out.
