Christopher Nolan fans will soon be able to own the screenplay for the director’s latest blockbuster, The Odyssey, as the official script has already climbed to No. 1 on Amazon’s bestseller list ahead of its release, writes Variety.
Published by Faber & Faber, the 240-page paperback is scheduled to be released on 4 August and is currently available for pre-order.
The book contains Nolan’s complete screenplay, including dialogue and scene descriptions, offering readers a closer look at his adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic.
Written and directed by Nolan, The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, and follows his perilous journey home after the Trojan War.
The ensemble cast also includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Elliot Page, Jon Bernthal and John Leguizamo.
The film has enjoyed a record-breaking start at the global box office, earning $264.1 million worldwide, including $124.5 million domestically during its opening weekend.
It has also emerged as one of the year’s best-reviewed releases, receiving an ‘A’ CinemaScore from audiences and a 95% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film’s success has also reignited interest in Homer’s original work.
According to reports, sales of The Odyssey across various editions have increased by 76% this year, while audiobook listening has surged following the film’s release.
The strong demand has now extended to Nolan’s screenplay, which has become Amazon’s top-selling book.
Publishing official screenplay editions alongside major releases has become a tradition for Nolan.
Previous scripts released in book form include Oppenheimer, Tenet, Interstellar, Inception and The Dark Knight Trilogy.
The screenplay edition offers fans and aspiring filmmakers an opportunity to explore Nolan’s storytelling and adaptation process beyond the cinema, without needing the film’s signature 70mm IMAX presentation.
