A prosecution witness testified before the International Crimes Tribunal‑1 in a case over the killing of 28 people in Dhaka’s Rampura during the July–August uprising last year.
The case was filed against four people, including Lt Col Mohammad Redowanul Islam and Major Md Rafat Bin Alam.
Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam delivered the opening statement at ICT‑1, headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumdar.
Later, the prosecution’s first witness, Bishwajit Rajbongshi, gave his deposition. He is the son of Gangacharan Rajbongshi, who was killed during the mass uprising last year.
Earlier, on 24 December, the tribunal rejected a defense petition seeking discharge from the charges and framed six charges against the accused, thereby formally beginning the trial.
Lt Col Redowanul and Major Rafat — both serving in Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the time of the incident — are currently in custody. The other two accused, former police additional deputy commissioner Md Rashedul Islam and former officer‑in‑charge Md Moshiur Rahman, remain fugitives.
