A Dhaka court has sentenced Suparna Sur Chowdhury, wife of former Bangladesh Bank deputy governor Sitangshu Kumar Sur to two years in prison in a case filed by the Anti‑Corruption Commission (ACC) for failing to submit her wealth statement.
Judge Md Rabiul Islam of Dhaka Special Judge Court‑10 delivered the verdict on Tuesday.
In addition to imprisonment, the court fined her Tk100,000. In default of payment, she will serve another three months in jail.
ACC prosecutor Shah Md Nazmus Saqib confirmed the information. On the day of the verdict, the accused was produced in court from prison and sent back to jail with the sentencing warrant after the judgment.
Case records show Suparna was accused of possessing wealth beyond known sources of income. Following the allegation, she was served a notice requiring submission of detailed statements of all movable and immovable assets, liabilities, sources of income, and acquisition details in her own name and in the names of dependents, including her husband Sitangshu also known as SK Sur.
On 27 October 2024, she received the prescribed form and order to submit the wealth statement under her signature. However, she failed to comply within 21 working days.
Later on 23 December 2024, ACC Deputy Director Nazmul Hossain filed the case. After investigation, ACC Assistant Director AM Taher submitted the charge sheet on 29 June 2025. On 3 February this year, the court framed charges against her.
During the trial, testimony from five witnesses was recorded. After examining evidence and proceedings, the court on Tuesday sentenced her to two years in prison and imposed the fine.
