Tejgaon College students withdrew the blockade of the Farmgate intersection in Dhaka after nearly two and a half hours on Thursday.
The students had blocked the intersection to protest the death of a fellow student in a clash between two factions of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).
Around 10am, more than one hundred students staged a demonstration in front of the main gate of Tejgaon College. Later, they took position at the Farmgate intersection.
However, they withdrew the blockade around 12:35pm.
Vehicular movement returned to normal, said Md Jewel, a police officer on duty at the Farmgate intersection.
He said, “We have spoken with the protesters. They have now returned to their campus. The situation is under control.”
Mahbub Hasan, a first-year student of Tejgaon College, told Times of Bangladesh, “Our senior brother died due to a political feud centering on drug abuse. This is in no way acceptable in a healthy educational environment. We demand a fair trial. The college is trying to cover it up, but we will not return to class without justice.”
On the night of 6 December, repeated clashes broke out between two groups of JCD, the student wing of BNP, at the Tejgaon College dormitory.
Three students, including Sakibul Hasan Rana, were seriously injured and immediately admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Later, Sakibul was transferred to another hospital in Malibagh, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
A case has been filed at the police station over the student’s death.
