Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday urged government officials and employees to work towards changing the fate of the people, noting that the nation is their “first and last address.”
Attending an exchange meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on his second day at the office since taking charge, Tarique highlighted the high expectations the public holds for the government.
He emphasised that the government’s success depends on the co-operation of civil servants.
Referring to the political mandate, Tarique stated that every political party has a manifesto. He noted that the people had voted in favour of implementing BNP’s election manifesto through a fair election.
Consequently, he sought the assistance of government officials in implementing the pledges outlined in the manifesto, specifically in sectors such as health, education, women’s education, employment, and sports.
Tarique further stressed the importance of ensuring public safety so that citizens feel secure. He also expressed his hope for full co-operation from officials in eradicating corruption from the country.
During the meeting held at Shapla Hall in Tejgaon, Tarique directed the staff to maintain confidentiality in the interest of the state. He underscored the necessity of strictly adhering to government rules and regulations to bring discipline to the nation.
The meeting was attended by the prime minister’s advisors, including Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed, Md Ismail Zabiullah, Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Humayun Kabir, Brigadier General (retd) Shamsul Islam, Dr Zahed Ur Rahman, and Mahdi Amin.
PMO Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar delivered the welcome address, while Director General Mohammad Abdul Wadud Chowdhury gave a presentation on the structure and functions of the office.
The meeting was also attended by the heads of various departments and agencies under the PMO, along with other officials and employees.
