Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will visit India once proper preparations are ensured, affirming that a summit between the prime ministers of Bangladesh and India is “120 per cent certain,” although a date has yet to be finalised.
He made the remarks on Wednesday following a meeting with Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Aazam Khan.
When asked about the timing of Tarique’s visit, Trivedi clarified that no discussions regarding specific months or dates have taken place.
“There was no talk about dates. No talk about months or dates. But it is 120 per cent certain that he will visit India. Rushing serves no one’s benefit. We must ensure that proper preparation is made,” he said.
Although no specific date has been set, the high commissioner noted that India desires a meeting between the Prime Ministers of Bangladesh and India as soon as possible.
Trivedi expressed optimism that despite existing challenges in bilateral relations, many issues would be resolved through the prime minister’s visit.
He remarked that assuming there are no challenges between the two nations would be a misconception, adding that the leaders of both countries should be given the opportunity to meet at a mutually convenient time.
Highlighting the broad scope of bilateral relations, the high commissioner pointed out that people-to-people connections exist across numerous areas, including water, cricket, football, trade, poetry, theatre, cinema, and music.
He stressed the necessity to enhance “interdependency,” or mutual reliance, between the two neighbourly nations.
Meanwhile, Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan said no discussions regarding Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit or any political matters took place during his meeting with the Indian High Commissioner.
