Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expressed displeasure on Wednesday morning after finding several Sylhet MPs at the airport welcoming him instead of attending the parliament session, prompting one MP to rush back to Dhaka and join the House in the afternoon.
The Prime Minister arrived at Sylhet MAG Osmani Airport to join a visit to Moulvibazar. MPs from various Sylhet constituencies were present at the airport lounge to welcome him.
Seeing them, the prime minister expressed anger and asked, “Why are you here? Don’t you have parliament today? Why haven’t you gone to parliament? Go to the parliament session.”
Alarmed by the Prime Minister’s reaction, Sylhet-6 MP Advocate Emran Ahmed Chowdhury returned to Dhaka in the afternoon and attended the parliament session.
The prime minister had travelled from Dhaka to Sylhet by air in the morning and then by road to Srimangal in Moulvibazar to distribute “Family Cards” at Victoria High School ground. He also planted two saplings there.
Later, he distributed more “Family Cards” at Moulvibazar Government High School ground and planted a mango and a neem sapling beside the school.
Wednesday was the scheduled question-answer session for the prime minister in parliament, but he had prior commitments in Moulvibazar. However, his displeasure at seeing MPs absent from the House made clear his expectation that lawmakers prioritise parliamentary duties.
