Tarique secures ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ for Dhaka-17

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has been allocated the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol for the Dhaka-17 constituency ahead of the upcoming election.

The symbol allocation letter was issued by the Dhaka Divisional Office on Wednesday.

Md Monirul Islam, former assistant law affairs secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North Jubo Dal, received the letter on behalf of Tarique Rahman.

Following the allocation by the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner, Monirul informed journalists that the commissioner has instructed all candidates to strictly adhere to the electoral code of conduct.

He further stated that voters from all demographics, particularly the youth, are eagerly waiting to cast their ballots for Tarique Rahman.

In the same constituency, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate SM Khaliduzzaman has been assigned the ‘Scales’ symbol.

The Election Commission (EC) commenced the distribution of symbols to contesting candidates on Wednesday, following the deadline for the withdrawal of candidacies.

Formal election campaigning is scheduled to begin on Thursday (22 January).

According to the EC’s announced roadmap, polling will take place on 12 February from 7:30am to 4:30pm without any break.

In addition to the parliamentary election, a national referendum will be held on the same day using separate ballot papers.
