An attack involving firearms took place in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali on Tuesday afternoon over a land dispute.
Assailants brandished weapons and fired shots in broad daylight, and footage of the incident later spread on social media, sparking panic in the area.
Police conducted a special operation at night and detained three men in connection with the attack. Officer‑in‑charge of Begumganj Model Police Station, Shamsuzzaman, confirmed the detentions Wednesday morning.
The detainees are Israfi, Mojib Ullah, and Mobarak Hossain.
Locals said Mojib Ullah and Sharif Ullah had been locked in a long‑standing dispute over land in Lakuriakandi village. Efforts by community representatives to resolve the matter had failed.
Around 2:30pm, one side’s son‑in‑law brought armed men from outside.
Complainant Ripon said: “For years my uncles and I have been in conflict over land. Suddenly, during the dispute, my uncle Mojib Ullah brought men who opened fire and attacked.”
The attackers vandalized the rival family’s home, displayed firearms, and fired blank rounds. No injuries were reported.
Amanullahpur Union Parishad Chairman Md Bahrul Alam confirmed the incident.
OC Shamsuzzaman said the attack stemmed from a family feud. Police reviewed CCTV footage and the viral video, identifying and detaining three suspects. Preparations are underway to file a case against them under the Arms Act, he added.
