Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Friday held bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, marking one of the key engagements of his four-day official visit to China.
The meeting began at 10:40 am local time (8:30 am Bangladesh time) and lasted for about 30 minutes, Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon said.
The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues relating to Bangladesh-China relations, including trade, investment, infrastructure, connectivity and other areas of mutual interest.
Officials said the talks are expected to further strengthen bilateral relations and create new opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting followed Thursday’s bilateral talks between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Great Hall of the People, during which the two sides discussed trade, investment and development cooperation and witnessed the signing of 13 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).
Earlier on Friday, the Prime Minister also met Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress.
His schedule also includes a visit to the Museum of the Communist Party of China before departing Beijing later in the day.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to leave Beijing for Dhaka at 5:00 pm local time, concluding his four-day official visit to China.
The China visit followed a two-day official visit to Malaysia, the first leg of Tarique Rahman’s maiden overseas tour since assuming office as Prime Minister.
