Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan highlighted his admiration for Australia on Monday when speaking at Mirpur, where he continued individual batting work despite the Tigers enjoying a scheduled rest day from their ongoing skill camp.
After a session in the indoor nets, the left hander spoke to the media, and the Ashes series quickly surfaced. “Yes I have been watching Ashes especially when I am home,” he said, before the follow up question arrived. Asked which side he was supporting, he answered immediately. “Australia.”
His preference came as Australia moved 2–0 up in the series, a run that has intensified scrutiny on England after head coach Brendon McCullum claimed his team had “over prepared” for the second Test in Brisbane. The remark went viral as criticism mounted.
Tanzid was asked whether over preparation could be an issue for Bangladesh in the build up to the World Cup. “Everything depends on how satisfied you are with your practice session,” he said. “If you reach that point where you are satisfied, no one here forces you. I am satisfied.”
Attention then turned to his ambitions for the T20 World Cup and whether he hoped to outperform senior players such as Tamim Iqbal or Shakib Al Hasan. Tanzid kept the focus on team success rather than individual hierarchy. “I do not think in these terms and my focus is on contributing to the team,” he said. “If I score runs and the team does not win, the runs have no value. I also do not believe that someone can surpass someone. My job is to score runs.”
With Australia setting the standard in the Ashes, Tanzid’s comments hinted at the qualities he admires most, placing emphasis on clarity, calm preparation and team oriented performance as Bangladesh build toward their next major tournament.
