Actor Tanjin Tisha has publicly addressed the Tk27,000 sari fraud case for the first time, rejecting the allegations against her and saying she will contest the matter through the courts.
Speaking at a press conference for the Iconic Awards at Banani Club in the capital on Thursday, Tisha said her 14-year career could not be undermined over a single sari.
She also expressed confidence in the country’s judicial system and said she would appear before the court as directed.
The actor said she had worked in modelling and acting for nearly 12 to 14 years.
According to her, she received a legal notice in her name the day after completing the shoot for her debut film Soldier, and the case was filed a few days later.
She claimed successful artistes are often subjected to attempts to damage their reputation.
The case was filed in late 2025 by Aminul Islam, the administrator of an online fashion page. The complaint alleges that Tisha took a sari worth Tk27,000 for promotional purposes but neither paid for it nor carried out the agreed promotional work.
The court has ordered the actor to appear in person on 13 August.
“I will definitely appear before the court,” Tisha said.
“I could not speak about the matter earlier because the case is ongoing. I respect the country’s laws and believe I will receive justice. I have legal representation and will deal with the matter through the proper legal process.”
Reiterating her position, the actor said she had built her career with dedication over the past 14 years and questioned the credibility of the allegation.
“I have worked hard to establish myself in this industry. Is it believable that I would commit fraud over a Tk27,000 sari from an online shop?” she said.
Tisha added that earning her current position through the love and support of audiences had not been easy.
She said her fans often become concerned whenever controversy surrounds her and expressed hope they would understand her position. She again said she respected the country’s legal system.
Tisha is currently working on her debut feature film Soldier, directed by Sakib Fahad and produced by Sun Motion Pictures.
The film stars Dhallywood actor Shakib Khan opposite her and is scheduled for release later this year.
