Sylhet Ratna Foundation, a social platform of distinguished personalities from the Sylhet region, has announced its new 23-member executive committee for the 2025–27 term.
In a press statement, founder and secretary general THM Jahangir said Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Chairperson Monsur Ahmed Chowdhury has been made chairman.
Former Supreme Court judge Salma Masud Chowdhury has been appointed senior vice-chairman, while Citizen Research Communications chairman and journalist THM Jahangir will serve as secretary general.
The announcement came Friday afternoon during the foundation’s general meeting at Gulshan North Club in Dhaka. The session was presided over by former chairman Ishtiaq Ahmed Chowdhury, with former caretaker government adviser CM Shafi Sami attending as the chief guest.
According to a press release, Basic Bank Chairman Helal Ahmed Chowdhury has been named vice-chairman. Niketan Society President Engineer Habib Ahsan, Saiham Group Director Syed AFM Shahjahan and Samad-Fauzia Foundation Chairperson Sabrina Samad have also been appointed vice-chairmen.
Trust Bank Millennium Branch Chief Manager Yusuf Yazdani Chowdhury and NRB Bank Securities CEO Manna Som have been selected as joint secretary generals. Entrepreneur Durdanah Hossain Dilia has been named treasurer, while Nabiha Express Chairperson Selina Chowdhury will serve as organisational secretary.
Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Shakila Zerin Ahmed has been given responsibility for education development. Dhaka University Faculty of Law Professor Jamila Chowdhury will oversee legal and human rights affairs.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital ENT Professor Dr Husne Qumer Osmany has been assigned health and research affairs. Jhalak Foundation founder and rights activist Zahid Ahmed Chowdhury will look after international affairs.
Environment activist and architect Tughlaq Azad has been appointed environment and culture affairs secretary, while Abdullah Al Nurul Gani will be responsible for history and heritage preservation.
Executive members include Honorary Consular General of Cuba and tea industrialist Obaid Jaigirder, former home secretary CQK Mustaq Ahmed, former Trust Bank managing director Ishtiaq Ahmed Chowdhury, businessman Azizur Rahman, former banker Ehsan K Soeb and Professor Abu Zahid Mohammad.
The foundation recently completed 20 years of its journey. It was established in Dhaka on 1 September 2005.
