Police rescued a seventh‑grade student about 12 hours after he went missing from Matlab North upazila in Chandpur.
Ratul Debnath, 13, a student of Chengarchar Government High School, was found in a remote hilly area in Bandarban’s Sadar upazila.
The district police media cell confirmed the information on Wednesday morning.
Ratul, son of Bishwajit Chandra Debnath, a gold trader at Chengarchar Bazar, went missing around 11:30am on 21 September. He left for school but did not return. Family members and relatives searched in different places but could not find him, and his mobile phone was found switched off.
Later that day, around 6:15pm, a status reading “Miss you Ma” appeared on Ratul’s Facebook page. The post alarmed his family further, especially as they were already anxious following a recent murder incident in Cumilla.
Ratul’s father subsequently filed a general diary (GD) at Matlab North Police Station. Taking the matter seriously, Chandpur Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman ordered a search operation.
Under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police (Matlab Circle) Jabir Husnain Sanib and Matlab North Officer‑in‑Charge Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, a police team led by SI Jibon Chowdhury and ASI Robiul Hossain began working to trace the boy.
Police said Ratul’s location was identified through information analysis, and use of technology. Based on this, a raid was conducted in the remote 12 Mile area of Bandarban, where he was rescued.
After completing necessary legal and institutional procedures, Ratul was handed over to his family.
