Khaled Mahmud Sujon has demanded a good and fair election at the Bangladesh Cricket Board. He said a proper vote is important to bring the right people into leadership.
Bangladesh cricket has been going through a tough time in recent months. The problems increased after the BCB election in October. There is talk that the current committee could be dissolved after the change in government.
Sujon criticised the board’s recent activities. “If needed, there can be changes,” he said. “In the last few months, I do not think the board has run properly.”
He spoke about the lack of domestic cricket and Bangladesh missing the T20 World Cup. “Domestic cricket is not happening. We could not play the World Cup. Many things are happening that are not good for cricket,” he said.
After what many called a controversial election, the BCB arranged a league without the rebel clubs. That move created more debate. The resignation of director Ishtiaque Sadiq and fixing allegations against another director also damaged the board’s image.
Sujon said he does not blame everyone at the board. “I will not say everyone is bad or everyone is good,” he said. “Those who came wanted to do well. Maybe they could not.”
He said the new government and the new sports minister will take their own decision. “In the end, the game must continue on the field. Cricket must run properly. That is the most important thing,” he said.
The former BCB director believes a fresh vote can improve the situation. “There should be a good election,” he said. “If the process is right, capable people will come. People will choose.”
He also reminded that the current board is elected. “An election has taken place, whether it followed the rules or not,” he said.
“How this elected board will be removed or changed is up to the government,” Sujon added. “In the end, everyone wants an elected board. The right people should be in the right places.”
