State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad on Saturday declared zero tolerance against corruption to ensure proper implementation of the prime minister’s initiatives.
He made the remarks while inspecting canal re-excavation work at the Dulaltoli embankment area in Boda municipality.
Referring to public perception of the Water Development Board, he said past incidents had damaged its image.
The ongoing excavation drive has been undertaken to restore confidence and improve the board’s reputation, he said.
The minister said the board would carry out excavation of rivers, canals and wetlands over six to seven months, generally between February and April or May.
Except in emergencies, no blocks would be placed for excavation during the monsoon season, he added.
Farhad said the ministry had adopted long-term work plans aimed not only at immediate implementation but also at ensuring continuity for future governments.
Boda Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rabiul Islam, Water Development Board Executive Engineer Ashutosh Barman and Boda Police Station Officer-in-Charge Selim Malik were present.
Departmental officials, local residents and leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party also attended the inspection.
