Intense speculation surrounds the safety of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei following reported US and Israeli air strikes that struck deep within the Iranian capital.

The Supreme Leader’s public silence since the first reports of explosions in and around Tehran has raised urgent questions regarding his wellbeing and the stability of the nation’s command hierarchy.

Reports indicate that the joint military operation targeted several strategic and military sites throughout the heartland of Iran.

Some claims suggest that the strikes may have even hit Khamenei’s residence in Tehran. While Iranian state media provides little clarity on the precise movements of the Supreme Leader or the scale of the destruction, the lack of information continues to fuel global uncertainty.

Unconfirmed social media reports suggest that authorities may have moved Khamenei to a secret, secure facility within the capital or to another location in the country.

Analysts point out that hardline factions in the Iranian establishment maintain alternative command centres specifically to protect top leadership during such crises a standard procedure for the regime when facing external aggression or internal unrest.

The military escalation follows a confirmation from US President Donald Trump, who announced that the United States has initiated a “massive and ongoing” military campaign against the Islamic Republic. In a video address,

Trump described the operation as a necessary measure to neutralise immediate threats posed by the regime.

“Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime, a vicious group of very hard, terrible people,” Trump declared. The President vowed that the US military would “destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground”.

Furthermore, Trump accused Tehran of attempting to restart its nuclear programme despite previous warnings from the US government.

Asserting that Iran had snubbed diplomatic efforts, he stated, “We warned them never to resume their malicious pursuit of nuclear weapons and sought repeatedly to make a deal,” adding that “we can’t take it anymore”.

As the confrontation intensifies, governments across West Asia remain on high alert, fearing the outbreak of a much larger regional conflict. Observers suggest the coming days will be critical in determining whether these strikes remain limited or if the situation spirals into a wider, prolonged war.
