Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has warned that strict action will be taken against election officials and law enforcement personnel if any irregularities occur at polling stations during national election.

He issued this warning while speaking as the chief guest at a law and order coordination meeting organised by the Faridpur District administration at the District Commissioner’s office.

The meeting aimed to ensure the smooth conduct of the election and referendum.

Chowdhury stated that the election would be free, fair, impartial, and festive, adding that unprecedented preparations had been made.

He highlighted three key aspects that differentiate this election from previous ones: the deployment of the highest number of law enforcement personnel, extensive training of the forces, and the extensive use of modern information technology.

He mentioned the use of body-worn cameras, CCTV, and drones to ensure transparency, along with the Election Security App developed by the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC).

The app will be activated once presiding officers and Ansar members depart for polling stations with election materials.

The Home Adviser instructed officials to ensure CCTV installation at every polling station and to construct boundary walls where necessary, even using bamboo if required.

Chowdhury also emphasised strict security during the transportation of ballot boxes after voting and called for the presence of candidate representatives and sufficient law enforcement during the counting of postal ballots, given their potential impact on the election outcomes.

He further directed that reserve law enforcement forces remain on standby from dawn on election day until the vote counting and result publication are completed.

Chowdhury also stressed that arrangements for food and logistics must be made, but firmly warned that no officer should accept money, food, or any undue benefits from candidates or their representatives.
