The interim government has announced financial and housing assistance for the family of Dipu Chandra Das, who was brutally beaten and burned to death in the Square Masterbari area of Bhaluka Upazila, Mymensingh.

Dipu Das, the sole breadwinner of his family, was lynched, severely beaten, and set on fire after being hung from a tree over allegations of making an insulting remark.

In response, the government has pledged comprehensive financial support, including the construction of a permanent home, to ensure the family’s security.

Following the directive of Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus, Education Adviser Dr. CR Abrar visited the family on 23 December, 2025, to express condolences on behalf of the government.

Dr. Abrar described the killing as a “brutal and inexcusable crime” that has no place in society. He stressed that while no amount of state assistance could compensate for the loss of life, the government is committed to ensuring justice.

“The killing of Dipu Das, fueled by communal hysteria, is a shame for the nation,” he said, emphasising that only justice can help the country move past this collective disgrace.

He also highlighted that the state respects the right of people from all religions, ethnicities, and communities to express their views peacefully, as long as it is done with mutual respect. “Even in moments of disagreement, no one has the right to take the law into their own hands,” he added.

So far, 12 individuals directly involved in the incident have been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing. The Education Adviser assured that all those responsible would be brought to justice through the due legal process.
