Warner Bros has announced the first theatrical film in the ‘Game of Thrones’ franchise, with ‘Aegon’s Conquest’ scheduled to hit cinemas on 1 June 2029.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Owen Harris will direct the film from a script by Beau Willimon. The story will centre on King Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros, while casting details remain undisclosed.
The film marks the franchise’s first feature adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ fantasy series. Talks of a ‘Game of Thrones’ movie have continued for more than a decade, dating back to 2013. The original HBO series ended in May 2019 after eight seasons.
HBO currently has two series from Game of Thrones universe. ‘House of the Dragon’ aired its third season this summer, while the second season of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ is expected next year.
Harris has directed episodes of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’, while Willimon created ‘House of Cards’ and wrote for ‘Andor’.
