BNP Standing Committee member and Chairman of the Election Steering Committee Nazrul Islam Khan has said that various incidents, including giving money to voters, are happening before the election.
He made the remark after meeting with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission office on in Agargaon on Tuesday.
The BNP leader said that the EC has been informed about these matters and has provided assurances that they will look into these issues.
He said, “I see in the media that special clothes are being made for hundreds of thousands of women. Ballot papers are being printed. Even blankets are being seized.”
EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed was also present at the time.
Also present were the party Chairperson’s Advisory Council member and a member of the Election Steering Committee, Ismail Jabiullah, former EC Secretary Mohammad Zakaria, and others.
During a briefing after the meeting, Nazrul Islam Khan said, “BNP wants a free, fair, and impartial election. For this, instructions have been given to our candidates and agents on WhatsApp to ensure the election is not hindered in any way. We have requested that the Election Commission play a legal role so that this long-awaited election is peaceful.”
He said, “Those people whose words make us hopeful and elated in talk shows are giving money to voters. We asked how the commission views this. The commission said they will take legal action. We said action must be taken against anyone who commits wrong, unethical, and illegal acts.”
