Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzad Ali has said that strict departmental action will be taken against any police officer found engaging in biased conduct in the upcoming National Parliament election.
He said this while addressing police officers present at the DMP’s monthly crime review meeting held at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium on Monday.
The DMP commissioner further said, “The National Parliamentary Election is near. A suitable environment must be created for a fair and peaceful election. Care must be taken to ensure that no weakness towards any party or individual is apparent in the police’s work during the election.”
Instructing everyone to remain vigilant so that organisations banned from activities cannot carry out covert operations, the DMP Commissioner added, “Patrolling activities must be intensified to increase a sense of security among city residents.”
Additional Police Commissioner (Admin) Md Sarwar said that the security of Dhaka Metropolitan Police establishments must be enhanced while also keeping them clean. He further said, “Considering the needs of service seekers, modern facilities are being increased in the station buildings.”
At the crime review meeting, Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md Nazrul Islam said, “The cases related to the anti-discrimination movement must be investigated with importance and the police report must be submitted to the court as quickly as possible. Care must be taken to ensure that no innocent person is subjected to unnecessary harassment,” instructing concerned officers to properly follow the revised Code of Criminal Procedure.
The crime review meeting, conducted by Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Md Faruq Hossain, was attended by DMP’s Additional Police Commissioner (DB) Md Shafiqul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner (Finance, Logistics and Procurement) Hasan Md Shawkat Ali, Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md Zillur Rahman, Law Officer Mohammad Ataul Haq, all joint police commissioners, deputy police commissioners, additional deputy police commissioners, assistant police commissioners, and officers-in-charge of police stations.
