Stephen Curry has made basketball history again. The Golden State Warriors star has become the first active player to receive a dedicated exhibit at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
The new exhibit, Stephen Curry: Beyond the Arc, will open on Friday in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The Hall of Fame said it is the first time in its nearly 75 year history that an active player has been given a special feature while still playing.
The exhibit celebrates Curry’s remarkable career. It includes video highlights, personal memorabilia, and interactive audio and video displays. It tells the story of a player who was once overlooked before college and later became one of the greatest players in NBA history.
Curry welcomed the honour and said it means a great deal to him.
“When I think about my journey, I think about the people who believed in me, the work that happened when nobody was watching and the moments that shaped me on and off the court,” Curry said.
“To have that story told while I’m still playing is something I don’t take lightly. My hope is that fans walk through this experience and feel the joy, the purpose and the gratitude that basketball has given me, and maybe see a little bit of their own journey in it too.”
The exhibit was developed with Curry’s business group, Thirty Ink.
The two time NBA Most Valuable Player is the league’s all time leader in three point shots. He is also a 12 time All Star and has won four NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors.
Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy praised Curry for changing the game.
“For him to become the first active player to have an exhibit in the Basketball Hall of Fame is a testament to what he represents to the game, to the Warriors, to the NBA and to his millions of fans around the world,” Dunleavy said.
He added that the exhibit is only the beginning before Curry eventually joins the Hall of Fame as an inductee after his playing career.
The Hall of Fame expects the special exhibit to remain open until the summer of 2027.
