Veteran South Korean actor Ahn Sung Ki has died aged 74 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Korean media reported that he died in the intensive care unit of Soonchunhyang University Hospital in Seoul, surrounded by family while receiving treatment.

His agency, The Artist Company, and hospital authorities confirmed the news of his death.

Industry sources said an industry funeral will be held to honour his extraordinary contribution to Korean cinema and cultural heritage. The ceremony will be jointly organised by the Shin Young Kyun Foundation and the Korean Film Actors Association, with senior figures from the film industry expected to attend.

Tributes poured in across social media as fans and colleagues remembered him as a national acting icon whose influence extended beyond borders.

Ahn Sung Ki began acting as a child and went on to appear in hundreds of influential films across decades and genres. His acclaimed career earned global respect and shaped generations of performers until his final years in South Korean cinema.
