A young man in Rajbari’s Pangsa upazila brought a live snake to the hospital after being bitten by a venomous cobra while working in a hayloft. The victim, identified as Md Shohoman, managed to capture the live snake in a plastic container and brought it with him to the hospital to assist doctors with his treatment.
The incident occurred around 1pm in the Ramkol area of Machpara union. According to local sources, Shohoman was working near his home when the cobra bit his right hand. Hearing his screams, neighbours rushed to the spot to rescue him.
Instead of panicking, Shohoman, with the help of locals, successfully trapped the snake in a plastic vessel and was subsequently rushed to the Pangsa Upazila Health Complex.
Medical staff at the complex provided primary treatment and administered the necessary anti-venom. Due to concerns that his physical condition might deteriorate, he was later transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced care and observation.
Pangsa Upazila Health Complex Resident Medical Officer (Acting) Dr Kutub Ahmed confirmed that the young man arrived at the hospital with the live snake that had bitten him.
“Being able to identify the snake directly allowed us to confirm that it was venomous and administer appropriate treatment promptly. He was given the necessary antivenom. However, to minimise any further risk and ensure closer observation, he was referred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital,” he said.
The unusual event has created a sensation in the area. Local residents noted that snake sightings have increased significantly since the start of the monsoon season. Medical professionals have advised the public to remain extra vigilant when working in fields or near shrubbery during this period.
