At least six people, including a police constable, were killed and 15 others injured in separate road accidents in Madaripur, Habiganj and Jhenaidah on Tuesday.
Three people were killed and 15 others injured after a bus collided with a truck in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur.
The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.
The accident occurred around 9:30am as a Welcome Paribahan bus, heading to Khulna from Dhaka, rammed into the rear of a truck while crossing the Arial Khan Bridge near the Dhaka–Bhanga Expressway, police said.
One person died on the spot, while locals and police rescued the injured and took them to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared two more victims dead.
Zahurul Islam, officer-in-charge of the Shibchar highway police station, said several of the injured are in critical condition.
The bodies have been kept at the Bhanga Upazila Health Complex.
In Habiganj, two people, including a pickup van driver, were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a pickup van in Bahubal upazila of the district.
The accident took place around 8:30am in the Mauchak area on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway when a Dhaka-bound truck collided head-on with a Sylhet-bound pickup van, killing the pickup driver dead on the spot, while its passenger, vegetable trader Liton, sustained critical injuries.
Later, a team from the Shayesthaganj highway police went to the spot and rescued the injured to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where the injured succumbed to his injuries.
The identity of the deceased pickup driver could not be confirmed immediately, police said.
In Jhenaidah, a police constable was killed after being hit by a truck at Kotchandpur.
Constable Anisur Rahman Anis, 45, was riding his motorcycle from Maheshpur town to the Kotchandpur model police station when a truck coming from behind ran him over near the Talmail area adjacent to Boluhar Bus Stand.
Police said the truck fled immediately after the collision.
Constable Anis was serving as a wireless operator at the Kotchandpur model police station.
