Bangladesh Post has transported about 811 tonnes of goods through Speed Post since March as the state postal operator expands technology-driven logistics, e-commerce and parcel services in a push to modernise its traditional network.
The department disclosed the figures ahead of World Post Day on 9 October, which Bangladesh will observe under the theme “One Postal Network, Infinite Possibilities”. It will also hold a nationwide Postal Service Week from 9 to 15 October, featuring letter-writing festivals, philatelic exhibitions and postal-service fairs at universities, Bangladesh Post said in a press release on Sunday.
The department is expanding e-commerce and logistics capacity through digital tracking and tracing, post pickup and delivery, fulfilment centres, transportation of agricultural produce and seasonal fruits and entrepreneur-led franchise post offices.
Bangladesh Post said Speed Post was increasingly being used as a fast and affordable parcel service by e-commerce businesses, small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, farmers and online sellers.
International parcel traffic has also increased. Outbound parcels rose to 316 tonnes in the first three months of FY2026-27 from 243 tonnes in the same period of FY2025-26.
That represented an increase of 73 tonnes, or about 29.84 per cent, year on year.
The department said its initiative to introduce franchise post offices was aligned with the government’s election commitments and announced 180-day action plan.
The initiative is creating employment opportunities at the local level while expanding the postal service network, according to the release.
Bangladesh Post is also working to modernise its operations through technology while maintaining conventional postal services, with the broader aim of developing a more accessible postal and logistics network.
The department said it played an important role in enabling 1,533,683 expatriate and domestic voters to exercise their voting rights through postal ballots in the 13th parliamentary election held in February 2026. That figure is also reported in current coverage of Bangladesh Post’s World Post Day programme.
Postal services at all Bangladesh Post offices will remain operational on 9 and 10 October for World Post Day, excluding savings bank activities.
The Universal Postal Union was established on 9 October 1874, and its 1969 Congress in Tokyo designated 9 October for the annual observance that became World Post Day. The day is intended to raise awareness of postal services’ role in people’s daily lives, business and social and economic development.
Bangladesh Post said it was working under this year’s theme to provide faster, affordable, reliable and diversified postal and logistics services at people’s doorsteps.
