A woman was killed after being stabbed allegedly by her stepson following a family dispute in Bholahat upazila of Chapainawabganj on Saturday evening.
The deceased was identified as Ayesha Begum, wife of Babul Hossain, residing in the Dharampur area of Jambaria union under the upazila.
Bholahat Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Abdul Barik confirmed the incident.
According to police and locals, an altercation broke out between Ayesha and her stepson, Ashikur Rahman, over a family dispute on Saturday evening. At one stage, Ashikur stabbed Ayesha with a knife, leaving her critically injured.
Locals rescued the victim and rushed her to the Shibganj Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor declared her dead.
Ashikur fled the scene immediately after the incident. Police have launched an operation to arrest him.
Legal proceedings are underway, and a case will be filed in connection with the incident, the OC added.
