Shwapno has distributed emergency food supplies among indigenous and underprivileged families affected by recent floods and landslides in Reicha, Tongkaboti and Bandarban Sadar, the retailer said in a press release on Monday.
The humanitarian assistance was provided after flooding and landslides left many families homeless and forced them into temporary accommodation, making access to daily food their most urgent challenge. Local development organisation ASIX helped identify the beneficiary families.
Shwapno, Bangladesh’s largest retail chain, supplied essential food items to ease the immediate hardship of the affected communities.
“Meeting the basic needs of disaster-affected people becomes one of the greatest challenges during natural calamities,” a senior Shwapno official said.
“At Shwapno, we believe it is the responsibility of every responsible organisation to stand beside communities in such difficult times. We hope this small initiative will help ease the suffering of the affected families and support them as they recover and rebuild their lives.”
Shwapno said it remained committed to supporting communities across Bangladesh through timely humanitarian initiatives and would continue to assist vulnerable people during disasters.
