The Shop Owners’ Association has decided to keep all shops, commercial establishments and shopping malls across the country, including in Dhaka, closed on 11 and 12 February ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The decision was announced on Thursday through a press release signed by the association’s president, Md Nazmul Hasan Mahmud.
The notice stated that voting for the election and referendum will take place on 12 February.
To facilitate voters’ participation, the association decided to close all shops, commercial outlets and malls nationwide on 11 and 12 February, in line with the government’s directives.
The closure decision was made at a joint meeting of the standing committees of the Bangladesh Shop Owners’ Association and the Dhaka Metropolitan Shop Owners’ Association.
Earlier, the government has declared a general holiday on 11 February, the day before the election, and has announced a holiday on 10 February for factory workers.
A general holiday is already observed on election day, 12 February.
