Bangladesh invites global energy firms for 26 offshore blocks

Bangladesh has invited international oil and gas companies to participate in the Bangladesh Offshore Bidding Round 2026, offering 26 offshore blocks in the Bay of Bengal as the country seeks investment to meet rising energy demand.

The opportunity was presented at a ministerial session of the Strategic Stage at the World Energies Summit in London, where Bangladesh highlighted its growing energy needs, offshore resource potential and investment framework before global investors, according to a government press release.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit said Bangladesh’s growing economy was driving a steady rise in energy demand.

The government is working to increase exploration and production of domestic gas and energy resources to meet future requirements, he said.

He urged international oil and gas companies to participate in the Bangladesh Offshore Bidding Round 2026.

Under the bidding round, 26 offshore blocks in the Bay of Bengal have been opened for global investors, including 11 shallow-water blocks and 15 deep-sea blocks.

Invest Bangladesh Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun presented Bangladesh’s economic outlook at the summit, highlighting macroeconomic stability, investment opportunities and policy measures aimed at attracting international investors.

The presentation also focused on the unexplored offshore potential of the Bay of Bengal, availability of modern seismic data and competitive terms under the Bangladesh Offshore Model Production Sharing Contract (PSC) 2026.

The Bangladesh delegation encouraged international energy companies to review geological and seismic data on the offshore blocks and engage with the government and Petrobangla to participate in the ongoing bidding round.
