A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent Md Kamal Hossain, a senior assistant secretary and officer on special duty (OSD) of Public Administration Ministry, to jail in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for allegedly securing his job through fraudulent means.

Judge Md Sabbir Fayez of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court passed the order after cancelling the accused’s bail. According to ACC Prosecutor Delwar Jahan Rumi, Hossain obtained a four-week anticipatory bail from the High Court on 15 December last year.

He subsequently surrendered to the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court on 23 December. At that time, the court granted him bail on the conditions that he would cooperate with the investigating officer and undergo a DNA test.

However, the court revoked his bail and ordered him to be sent to prison after he failed to comply with the bail conditions twice.

The case was originally filed on 26 December 2024 by ACC Deputy Assistant Director Md Manjurul Islam Mintu.

The prosecution alleges that Md Kamal Hossain engaged in information forgery by using the names of his uncle, Freedom Fighter Md Ahsan Habib, and his aunt, Mosa Sanoara Khatun, as his parents to secure university admission and various benefits, including his government job.

His biological parents are Md Abul Kashem and Mosa Habia Khatun.

By misrepresenting his pedigree, Hossain participated in the 35th BCS examination and joined the administration cadre under the freedom fighter’s child quota.

Investigations revealed that Hossain used his biological father’s name, Md Abul Kashem, while studying at Sirajnagar Government Primary School and up to Class 8 at Philipnagar Secondary School in Daulatpur, Kushtia.

However, he registered his uncle and aunt as his parents when enrolling in Class 9 at the same secondary school.
