Mohammad Habibur Rahman Siddiquee, the registrar general of Supreme Court (SC), has been appointed as the first secretary of the newly established SC Secretariat.
He will serve in this role alongside his existing responsibilities as registrar general.
The announcement came on Monday through a press release issued by SC Public Relations Officer Md Shafiqul Islam.
The release noted that the Supreme Court Secretariat Ordinance, 2025 has been enacted to establish a separate secretariat for the SC, aiming to ensure the full independence of the judiciary. The ordinance was promulgated on 30 November by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs following the President’s instructions.
Following the ordinance, Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed assigned Mohammad Habibur Rahman Siddiquee the additional responsibility of secretary of the SC Secretariat until further notice. This means he will now serve concurrently as registrar general and as the administrative head of the SC Secretariat.
Under Sections 4(2) and 4(4) of the ordinance, the chief justice retains overall control of the secretariat, overseeing all administrative functions. The ordinance also mandates the appointment of a secretary to manage the secretariat’s administrative operations.
