Residents in six remote hill villages across Lakshmichhari upazila no longer have to cross a stream on foot, following the construction of a new bamboo bridge by the Bangladesh Army.
Built by the Dulyatoli Army Camp under Lakshmichhari Zone, the footbridge connects the isolated neighbourhoods and eases long-standing travel difficulties.
Local sources indicate that around 300 people reside in the remote hilly terrain of Dulyatoli Union and rely on this route daily for their essential needs.
Due to prolonged communication limitations, residents were previously forced to wade through the stream water, with their hardship escalating severely during the monsoon season when water flow surged.
The lack of crossing facilities particularly impacted on students of Dulyatoli High School, who regularly faced severe disruption and had to cross the hazardous stream at great risk when water levels rose.
Residents noted that the newly constructed bamboo bridge has rendered movement much easier for both students and local inhabitants, bringing much-needed relief to daily life across the six villages.
Highlighting the initiative, Dulyatoli Camp Commander Major Nahian Imtiaz mentioned that the Bangladesh Army works continuously for public welfare.
He explained that the bamboo bridge was built considering the suffering of the local population, ensuring that school-going children as well as residents travelling to markets or offices for urgent business no longer have to cross through stream water on foot.
Expressing appreciation for the development, Dulyatoli Union Parishad Chairman Trilon Chakma described it as a noble initiative.
He noted that people in the hill tracts travel under immense hardship, adding that the army’s construction of the bamboo bridge has provided great benefit to the local community.
