Mohammad Salahuddin says he will remain closely involved with Bangladesh’s national team despite taking charge of the High Performance (HP) squad for its tour of South Africa.
Salahuddin worked with the senior side during the recent series against Zimbabwe. He will now lead the HP squad as part of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s long-term development programme.
Before leaving the country on Monday, Salahuddin stressed that his new role would not separate him from the national setup.
“I will stay in contact with the national team. It is not as if I am completely separated from that side because we will always have a connection with these players.”
He believes regular communication between the HP programme and the senior team remains essential for Bangladesh’s player development.
“We will maintain good communication. We still have responsibilities for the players who are in the national team. I never consider myself outside the national team.”
Salahuddin said the coaching role itself matters less than helping Bangladesh develop the next generation of international cricketers.
“This is the HP team and we have big plans for them. This time two HP squads are touring overseas. One is going to Australia and the other to South Africa.”
He believes the overseas assignments will give young cricketers a realistic measure of their standards against stronger opposition.
“It is a big opportunity for the boys. They will understand where they stand and where they are at the international level.”
Bangladesh have sent two High Performance squads abroad this year, with one touring Australia and the other travelling to South Africa as the board continues to expand overseas exposure for emerging players.
