The Jagannath University (JnU) arm of Sada Dal, a BNP-leaning teachers’ organisation, has accused the university’s central students’ union (Jnucsu) of pursuing personal agendas that are detrimental to a healthy academic environment.
In a press release issued on Wednesday and signed by the organisation’s President Md Azam Khan, the group alleged that Jnucsu’s current activities do not align with the university’s educational standards.
The statement noted that Vice-Chancellor (VC) Md Rais Uddin, who also serves as the ex-officio president of the students’ union, should be supported through coordination to move the university forward.
However, Sada Dal claimed that various controversial remarks about the VC have been circulated on social media, which have undermined his image and professional morale. The organisation described the language used in these instances as “unacceptable”.
In response, Jnucsu Vice President (VP) Riazul Islam issued a counter-statement via his Facebook profile.
Riazul alleged that the Sada Dal statement was released immediately following an attack on the Jnucsu Sports Secretary Jorjis Anower Naim.
He asserted that while the students’ union consistently attempts to maintain a normal atmosphere on campus, the university administration and certain teachers from Sada Dal have used the campus as a field for dominance and instability.
Riazul further claimed that former students belonging to Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) had previously assaulted the former proctor Muhammad Tazammol Hoque, and insulted Hanif, a teacher from the Mathematics department, on the day of the VC’s appointment.
He criticised Sada Dal for failing to take any action or even initiate a trial regarding these incidents. While stating that teachers deserve the highest respect, the VP argued that the conduct of some Sada Dal members has been “unprofessional”.
He specifically alleged that a high-ranking teacher within the administration has been disrupting the campus environment by repeatedly posting “haha” (laugh) reactions to Jnucsu’s official work from a personal social media account.
Riazul urged the concerned teachers to uphold their professional dignity, focus on their academic responsibilities, and cooperate in making the campus more beautiful.
