Rezwan Shahriar Sumit’s latest film ‘Master’ is set to have its Australian premiere at the 73rd edition of the Sydney Film Festival.
Sharing the announcement on Facebook, Sumit described the film’s inclusion in the festival’s Features section as a major achievement. He noted that the competition line-up includes internationally recognised filmmakers such as Asghar Farhadi, Andrey Zvyagintsev and Cristian Mungiu, while Master has been placed alongside globally recognised films including ‘Filipiñana’.
“It is incredibly humbling to see how a small film rooted in the local politics of Bangladesh is resonating so powerfully on the global stage. It proves that whether in a rural village or a global metropolis, the struggle for integrity and the human cost of power is a universal story,” Sumit wrote.
The festival’s programming team also praised the film, stating, “Sumit’s assured sophomore is carefully framed, with bright colour palettes contrasting its sinister undercurrents, steered by brilliant performances from Nasir Uddin Khan and Azmeri Haque Badhon.”
Earlier this year, Master won the Big Screen Award in the Big Screen Competition section at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
The ensemble cast also includes Zakia Bari Mamo, Fazlur Rahman Babu and Lutfar Rahman George in key roles.
