Mirzapur The Movie continued its strong run at the box office on Sunday, taking its opening-weekend collection closer to the ₹100-crore mark, reports Hindustan Times.
The film opened with ₹25 crore net on Friday. It then recorded a 25% rise on Saturday, collecting ₹32 crore. Its two-day total reached ₹57.75 crore net.
According to Sacnilk, the film had earned ₹14 crore net by 3pm on Sunday. That took its reported opening-weekend collection to ₹71 crore at that point.
The film also recorded around 38% occupancy during morning shows on Sunday. Its strong performance in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi has helped drive the numbers.
Based on the figures available by 3pm, the film was on course to finish Sunday close to the ₹100-crore mark. It could then cross ₹100 crore by Monday if the momentum continues.
The performance has also put Mirzapur The Movie ahead of several recent Hindi releases. Its weekend haul has already surpassed the reported lifetime collection of Alpha, which starred Alia Bhatt and Sharvari and earned around ₹60 crore.
The film’s strong opening has also challenged the idea that a theatrical release based on a streaming series might struggle to attract paying audiences. Mirzapur has built a strong following through its web series, and the film has carried that popularity into cinemas.
Presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment, Mirzapur: The Movie comes from director Gurmeet Singh and writer Puneet Krishna.
Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar produced the film under Excel Entertainment, with Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani serving as co-producers.
Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi and Divyenndu lead the cast. Jitendra Kumar plays a character previously portrayed by Vikrant Massey in the series.
Ravi Kishan, Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Dugal, Mohit Malik, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, Pramod Pathak, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Shekhar Gaur, Shweta Tripathi and Sonal S Chauhan also feature in the film.
