Bogura Airport is set to be transformed into one of the country’s primary aviation hubs as part of a government initiative to expand infrastructure across the northern region.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam announced the plan during a visit to the airport on Thursday, stating that the government intends to utilise the geographical and economic potential of northern Bangladesh.
She noted that this development initiative would begin in Bogura, marking a significant step in the expansion of regional aviation.
State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat detailed that the project includes the construction of an international-standard airport featuring a 10,500-foot runway designed to accommodate larger aircraft.
“Cargo facilities would also be developed to support the transport of agricultural produce, industrial goods and export-oriented products from the northern region,” the state minister added.
According to ministry officials, the broader infrastructure plan also involves the establishment of a pilot training academy and the expansion of cargo-handling capacity to bolster connectivity in northern Bangladesh.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam was also present during the visit.
