The government has appointed regular chairmen to Petrobangla and the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) amid ongoing challenges in the country’s gas and fuel sectors.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Monday appointing Md Abdul Mannan, Additional Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, as the chairman of Petrobangla.

The appointment came a day after Md Rafiqul Islam, a member of the Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council, was appointed as the chairman of BPC on Sunday.

The appointments ended a vacancy period of more than three and a half months at Petrobangla and nearly two months at BPC.

Meanwhile, the chairman’s post at BPC fell vacant after Rezanur Rahman was made an OSD on 26 July.

Since then, officials served as acting chairman of BPC in three phases before the appointment of a regular chairman.
