Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Jamaat‑e‑Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has warned that if the government deceives and cheats, the people will not forgive it. He also said they will remain on the streets until public demands are met.
He was speaking as chief guest at a roadside rally in Shimrail, Siddhirganj upazila of Narayanganj on Saturday morning during the Dhaka–Chattogram long march.
Shafiqur said, “They (the government) make promises and then break them. The people will not forgive them.”
Recalling the July 2024 uprising, the Jamaat chief said, “Your comrades shed blood on this road against dictatorship. Their demands were not fulfilled. We have taken to the streets to realise those demands. Insha Allah, we will return home only after achieving them.”
The leader highlighted the demand to implement the referendum verdict and the spirit of the July mass uprising. He said, “We are on the streets to implement the referendum’s verdict. We are on the streets to realize the spirit of the July uprising. We are on the streets to restore gas to your homes. We are on the streets to ensure electricity and light in your houses.”
Emphasizing the unity of the 11‑party alliance led by Jamaat, Shafiqur Rahman said, “The 11 parties stand beside you. You are with the 11 parties. Allah will accept our united effort. We will succeed. We will build a Bangladesh free of fascism.”
The Dhaka–Chattogram long march, organised on Saturday morning from the capital, was launched under the six‑point demand of the 11‑party alliance.
