Hazrat Shah Jahangir Tajul Arefin Sayid Moulana Muhammad Areful Hai (QSA) breathed his last on Friday (24 October).

As Sajjadah Nashin of Mirzakhil Darbar Sharif, he upheld a legacy that for over 200 years has been known as the “Ship of Learning.”

His Namaz-e-Janazah was held on  25 October at Mirzakhil Darbar Sharif, Satkania, Chattogram, led by his son and successor Dr Moulana Muhammad Maksudur Rahman (QSA), read a press release.

Founded by Shah Jahangir Sheikhul Arefin Mukhlisur Rahman (QSA), the Darbar has been a centre of Islamic scholarship and spiritual excellence. Under Hazrat Areful Hai (QSA), this sacred mission flourished further nurturing scholars, guiding seekers, and spreading Islamic knowledge.

His teachings emphasized the harmony of knowledge and spirituality that the intellect must serve the heart, and both must serve humanity.

He believed education was an act of worship and that every lesson learned should bring one closer to Allah. Schools, libraries, study circles, and seminars thrived under his leadership, reflecting his belief that knowledge is a divine trust.

A statement read, “Today, we mourn not just a saint, but a teacher whose legacy lives in the hearts of thousands he enlightened. The ship of learning he guided has reached its shore but its sails will continue to carry seekers toward the horizon of divine truth.”
