Siam, the prime suspect in killing of schoolgirl Shahriar Sharmin Binti in the capital’s Rayer Bazar, has been detained, police said.
Police said he was detained on Thursday morning from Kathalbagan area. A sharp weapon and blood-stained clothes were seized from his possession.
Binti, a 14-year-old student, was stabbed to death by a youth on Wednesday night at Rayer Bazar under Dhaka’s Hazaribagh Police Station. She was an eighth-grade student at Rayer Bazar High School.

Before her death around 9pm, Binti said that a youth named Siam had attacked her with a sharp weapon.
The victim’s mother, Nadia Begum, alleged that Siam had been harassing Binti via mobile phone for the past three to four years. She noted that she had previously scolded Siam over the phone for his behaviour.
