A 14-year-old schoolgirl was stabbed to death by a youth in the capital’s Rayer Bazar area on Wednesday night.
The deceased, Shahriar Sharmin Binti, was an eighth-grade student at Rayer Bazar High School. She was the daughter of Bellal Hossain and resided in the Haider Hotel alley in Rayer Bazar.
According to the victim’s mother, Nadia Begum, Binti had gone out with her younger brother, Nabil, around 8pm. Nabil reportedly purchased vegetables, handed them to his sister near their home, and then proceeded to a mosque.
Shortly after, the parents heard a commotion outside and rushed downstairs to find Binti lying in a pool of blood in the alley.
Her father, Bellal Hossain, initially took her to Sikder Medical College Hospital. As her condition worsened, she was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where attending doctors pronounced her dead at approximately 10:15pm.
The victim’s mother claimed that Binti, while in a critical state, identified a youth named Siam as her attacker to local witnesses.
Nadia Begum further alleged that Siam had been harassing Binti via mobile phone for the past three to four years. She noted that she had previously scolded Siam over the phone for his behaviour.
“I want justice for my daughter’s murder. I want the killer Siam to be hanged,” she said.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the death and stated that the body bore multiple wounds on the shoulder and back. The body has been kept at the morgue for an autopsy.
Hazaribagh Police Station is currently investigating the incident.
