Bangladesh Boxing Federation confirmed a new president on Thursday, acting swiftly after the sudden vacancy at the top. The federation approved Md Faizur Rahman Bhuiyan, the ad-hoc committee’s second vice-president, to take charge. The move followed a formal meeting and constitutional procedure.
The post fell vacant after the death of Lt Col MA Latif Khan (Retd) on 4 February. He passed away at Combined Military Hospital while undergoing treatment for age-related complications. At that time he was 79 years old.
Latif Khan served Bangladesh across several fronts. He built a long career as a military officer, administrator, political figure and sports organiser. His influence stretched well beyond boxing.
The federation followed its constitution to ensure continuity. Clause 15.4 of the model constitution allowed the council to elevate a serving office-bearer. The executive committee backed the decision at its meeting on 7 February.
