Sanju Samson struck a quick fifty as India beat Afghanistan by seven wickets in the second T20I in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The win also gave India the three match series with one game still to play. The hosts now lead the series 2-0.

Afghanistan scored 159/8 after India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. India made light work of the chase. They reached 163 for three in just 14.5 overs.

Samson led the attack with 57 from only 22 balls. He took some time at the start before going after the Afghanistan bowlers.

Abhishek Sharma also attacked from the other end. The two openers helped India race to 82 without loss after six overs. Rashid Khan finally broke the stand by removing Abhishek. He then dismissed Samson in the same over.

Rashid later removed Shreyas to finish with all three India wickets. But Afghanistan could not stop India from completing the chase with 37 balls remaining.

Earlier, Afghanistan struggled to build big partnerships after being sent in to bat.

Arshdeep Singh gave India their first breakthrough by removing Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Nitish Kumar Reddy then caused more problems for the visitors. He finished with three wickets for 24 runs and was India’s most successful bowler.

Afghanistan continued to lose wickets through the middle overs. Their lower order added some useful runs late in the innings to take the total to 159.

India had also won the first T20I by seven wickets after chasing 157. The third and final T20I will be played on Thursday.
