A Dhaka tribunal has begun recording witness statements in the rape and murder case of child Ramisa Akter in the capital’s Pallabi area.
Ramisa’s father, Abdul Hannan Molla, gave his testimony at the opening session of the proceedings on Tuesday. He appeared in the court directly from the hospital.
The prime accused, Sohel Rana, and his wife Swapna, were produced before the court around 10:30am.
Afterwards, Ramisa’s mother, Parveen Akter, also gave her testimony before Dhaka Metropolitan Children Violence Suppression Tribunal Judge Masrur Salekin.
The witnesses demanded justice and the maximum punishment for the accused.
Several other key witnesses are scheduled to testify in the case, including a magistrate, doctors, evidence‑collecting officers, and local residents.
Accused Sohel was brought to the tribunal from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj, while his wife Swapna was produced from Kashimpur Jail.
On Monday, the tribunal framed charges against both accused and ordered the trial to begin.
According to the case, Ramisa, a second-grade student, was raped and murdered brutally at a flat in Pallabi on 19 May.
Pallabi police said Swapna was first arrested for assisting in the murder. Based on her information, police later conducted a raid in Fatullah, Narayanganj, and arrested prime accused Sohel. The arrested accused confessed to their crimes in court statements.
